Many people who call themselves Libertarians can be very Green (and vice versa). However, it's clear that Ron Paul is a strict Libertarian, and that he remains fundamentally opposed to a large percentage of the planks in the GP platform.

How long with the Green Party?

Yes
Do you consider yours a "Green lifestyle?"
½ Green
A few words about YOU >>
I decided to re-register to Green as of 2/23/09, since I feel that the Dems are about to sell us out (again!) I'm also resuming vegetarian dietary habits, in line with my own consciousness-raising.

I worked with the Obama campaign since 4/07, when Billy introduced me to his ideas at a roundtable discussion. I also participated in the NV caucus and the County Convention, though I elected not to go to State this time around.

Though I helped get Obama elected, I do intend to criticize him when I feel it's appropriate, and I definitely have increasing concerns over certain directions he has taken lately, especially with regard to civil liberties and the Afghanistan war.

I tend to be very liberal; I would have gone for Dennis Kucinich if I thought he was viable. In the end, neither Obama nor any other politician will save the world; the world must save itself, period. As a practicing metaphysician, I of course start with improving myself.

Besides grassroots politics, I'm interested in art, especially computer-assisted art, and in open-source software, including Linux, Firefox, OpenOffice, Gimp, Inkscape, and Blender.

I'm particularly interested in how being Green can help with the budget, since I'm on a fixed income; keeping energy consumption down as much as possible seems to be one very good way to get started here.
For whom did you vote for President in 2008?
Barack Obama
What does the near future look like to you?
Everyone gets along and basic necessities are worked out in neighborhood villages. Necessity becomes the mother of invention. Life gets very local. People relax. Stop running around. Spend more time talking to neighbors in the streets and walking their dogs together., The seeming ceaseless wealth of the late 20th century is not seen again. Depression sets in with many poor people just able to eat and provide shelter for their families while small minorities of a new middle class trade gold pieces and jewelry for goods and services., Recession. People reduce spending. Many move to large-scale apartment communities where food is grown collectively. Necessities are reduced to weekly food provisions and water. Electricity & Internet access & cable TV become big-ticket luxury items.
Why are you joining WaGreens?
I'm sick and tired of the Dems making a lot of wonderful promises, then selling us all out once they get into power. Even Obama is clearly leaving a lot to be desired, though he a huge improvement over the alternative from that "other" party. (I won't mention the "other" party by name, as it sickens me to even think about them!)

Personal Insight on Why We Need Universal Healthcare Reform!

Recently, I was laid up in St. Mary's Hospital for two weeks. Since I receive disability, I had Medicare Part A to cover most of the hospital bill, and the people there were quite explicit in telling me not to even worry about the rest of the hospital bill.

At least I was fortunate to have the Part A coverage. Many people can't even get that much, as there are way too many people with no insurance at all. Even those with insurance will too often have their claims denied, especially after someth… Continue

Deficit hawks attacking Social Security under guise of "fiscal responsibility"

Another example of how the deficit hawks, led this time by Peter Peterson, want to reduce the deficits on the backs of the less affluent (the elderly and disabled, in this case), rather than owning up to their own greed and how that caused the crisis and the current deficits in the first place.

The current issue of The Nation (dated March 2) has an excellent piece on this. I already called Senator Reed's office (686-5750) and expressed my concerns. Regrettably, AARP has dropped the ball on this… Continue

Very envious of your time with Jimmy Carter, a HUGE hero of mine. One of the last, great Democrats.
